Meet Travis Brown

The Man Behind T's WickedSpice

At SpiceQuest, we're honored to collaborate with growers who've turned passion into purpose. Meet Travis Brown, founder of T's WickedSpice—a self-taught superhot cultivator, teacher, and product creator whose journey into peppers began with an ending and became a second career.

Fifteen years ago, a workplace injury forced Travis into early retirement. What could have been a setback became a turning point. He'd always grown peppers, but now he had time to go deep. One season, he found himself with more superhots than he could give away—so he started selling them. In one month, he made $3,000. The next year, he germinated 1,300 plants. They sold out in three weeks.

That's when Travis knew this wasn't just a hobby anymore.

"I'm self-taught," Travis explains. His breakthrough came about ten years ago when a good friend named Tom Broome—a respected name in the pepper world—sent him some unreleased varieties to experiment with. Travis taught himself to germinate and grow them successfully. It took two years to dial it in. By year three, he was selling plants and teaching others how to do the same.

Six years ago, he formalized everything under T's WickedSpice, a small business built around plants, jams, spicy hot oils, and now—candy. The HotDots collaboration with SpiceQuest was born from one of Travis's brainstorming sessions, the same restless creativity that's driven his entire journey.

But through all of it, Travis keeps coming back to where it started: growing.

"My focus has always been on flavor over heat," he says. "I look at what people actually do with peppers and try to find the ones that enhance the dishes you cook. My second passion is cooking—so flavor matters."

Today, Travis grows between 800 and 2,000 plants per season depending on location. He still sells at his local street fair, still moves plants through the online pepper community, and still teaches others how to grow successfully. He's built a loyal following by sharing what he's learned—not gatekeeping it.

We're proud to partner with Travis on Hot Dots and to feature his work in the SpiceQuest community. His story is proof that sometimes the best things come from starting over.
