The Red Hydra is the Bloodfire Serpent, a rare cross of Sepia Serpent and Reaper Sbagliato. It looks as dangerous as it tastes. Pods are rough, twisted, and often end with a sharp tail. The heat is immediate and crushing, has been known to reach heat levels well over 2,000,000 SHU (although this particular batch tested just shy of 1 million SHU),
For a few seconds you taste a floral sweetness. Then the fire takes over and does not let go. The burn can last 20 minutes or more. This is not a pepper for the faint of heart.

I'm enamored with this chili I recently received as a single grinder shipment. Four grinds on a bowl of Momofuku Soy and Scallion noodles produced a quick and fierce front-of-the-palate burn that was very persistent, with a tingly scalp, notable gustatory hyperhidrosis, and a solid endorphin release. The flavor is a really delicious combination of fruity and woodsy. That's suffused that entire bowl of noodles. I'll be using it again soon with a slightly higher dose
