Matchbook: Build Your Spice Life
Matchbook is a complete SpiceQuest spice system, built around how people actually eat: at the stove, at the table, and on the road. Three precision push-button grinders, a leather travel case, and three chili pepper refills tuned to a specific point on the SpiceQuest heat scale. Pre-loaded, lab-tested, and ready to use.
First, what is a SpiceQuest grinder?
If you've never seen one, here's the short version. A SpiceQuest grinder is a precision tool, not a shaker. It's engineered to deliver a calibrated dose of fresh-ground chili pepper with a single push of a button.
- Push-button precision. One press, one consistent dose. No twisting a stiff peppermill until your wrist gives out.
- Stainless steel mechanism. Corrosion-resistant and independently tested for food-contact safety.
- Refillable, on purpose. When the pepper inside runs out, you load it back up. Same grinder, fresh peppers, forever.

Real Chili Peppers, Ground Fresh
You know how black pepper from a real grinder tastes nothing like the grey dust in a pre-filled shaker? Same idea, but for chili.
Pre-ground chili loses its volatile aromatic oils within weeks of being crushed. The fruit goes flat. The complexity disappears. What you're left with is just heat, usually mixed with salt, anti-caking agents, or worse.
Grind whole, real chili the moment it hits your food and you get something different: peppers that are bright, fruity, smoky, and alive. Heat with character. Not just a number on a label.
How Matchbook compares to typical "spicy" gifts
Three Grinders, Three Jobs
A normal kitchen has one peppermill, sitting next to the stove, doing one job. Matchbook is built around a different idea: spice belongs wherever the meal happens, and each moment needs a different tool.
The largest grinder we make, for cooking and prep. Same precision push-button mechanism we use in our Beast XL collection. Built for the stove, the grill, and the cutting board.
Our classic grinder. The same one used across every SpiceQuest kit and limited edition. Designed to live on the table next to the salt and pepper.
The world's smallest push-button grinder. Same precision push-button mechanism, just smaller. For travel, takeout, and bland hotel breakfasts.
Built Around the Mini: A Travel-First Accessory System
Most of the accessories in this kit aren't generic add-ons. They're purpose-built for The Mini, our travel grinder. Together, they make the Mini a true on-the-go system you can take anywhere without making a mess.
- Leather Travel Case: Custom-fitted to The Mini, with a keychain clip so it rides on a bag, belt loop, or set of keys.
- Spill Cap: Sized specifically for The Mini's grind chamber. Keeps spice where it belongs while it bounces around in a bag, glovebox, or pocket.
- Precision Funnel: Built to the Mini's smaller refill opening, so you can top it off cleanly without losing half the pepper to the counter.
The Chef and The Table live at home. The Mini is built to leave the house, and the case, cap, and funnel are what make that actually possible.
Choose Your Fire: Four Pepper Packs
Matchbook ships with one of four pepper packs, selected at the top of the page. Each contains three real, single-origin chili peppers chosen to sit at a specific point on the SpiceQuest heat scale. Pick the pack that matches the way they actually eat.
Flavor first, with light, manageable warmth. The easy entry into SpiceQuest.
Real heat with balance. The sweet spot for people who already like spice.
Superhot territory. Deep burn, long linger, real intensity.
A line drawn across the spectrum. Bright, bold, and full fire, all in one kit.
🔥 Matchbook: Kindling (Low Heat Pack)
A gentle entry into the SpiceQuest spectrum. Kindling is built for everyday flavor, light warmth, and easy control. These peppers bring character without overwhelming the food, making this the best choice for anyone who wants to explore heat without jumping straight into the fire.
- Pequin, #1 on the SpiceQuest heat scale
- Scotch Bonnet, #2
- Bird's Eye (Thai Chili), #3
Best for: eggs, pizza, soups, tacos, roasted vegetables, grilled chicken, and anyone who wants flavor first with a manageable burn.
🔥🔥 Matchbook: Campfire (Medium Heat Pack)
Campfire brings a fuller, warmer burn. This pack steps into more serious heat while still keeping things balanced, flavorful, and usable. It's the sweet spot for people who already like spice and want peppers with more personality, more intensity, and a little more edge.
- Habanero, #4
- Ghost Pepper, #5
- 7-Pot Brain Strain, #6
Best for: burgers, noodles, chili, wings, barbecue, stews, marinades, and weeknight meals that need a real kick.
🔥🔥🔥 Matchbook: Bonfire (High Heat Pack)
Bonfire is built for serious heat seekers. These are powerful peppers with deep burn, long linger, and real superhot intensity. This is not the casual sprinkle. This is the pack for people who want to feel the fire and still appreciate the flavor behind it.
Best for: extreme heat lovers, spicy challenges, bold sauces, chili, barbecue, and anyone who thinks "hot" should actually mean hot.
🔥➜🔥🔥🔥 Matchbook: Fireline (Mixed Heat Pack)
Fireline cuts across the SpiceQuest spectrum. It gives you three distinct points on the heat map: bright and sharp, bold and aggressive, then full superhot fire. This is the best choice for someone who wants range, contrast, and a true sense of how far the SpiceQuest experience can go.
- Bird's Eye (Thai Chili), #3
- 7-Pot Brain Strain, #6
- Carolina Reaper, #10
Best for: explorers, gift-givers, curious cooks, heat progression, and anyone who wants range, contrast, and a true sense of how far the SpiceQuest experience can go.

Lab-Verified Heat
"Hot" without a number is just marketing. SpiceQuest tests every batch using HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) to measure actual Scoville Heat Units before any pepper goes into a grinder. The number on the label is the number in the bottle. Learn more about each pepper.

Quick Questions
Is this a hot sauce?
No. Matchbook contains dry, fresh-ground chili pepper that can be dispensed from a precision grinder. It's designed to be used the way you'd use a peppermill: at the stove, on the table, or on the go. Think of it as the spicy equivalent of switching from a pre-filled pepper shaker to a real peppermill.
How is Matchbook different from your other kits?
Most SpiceQuest kits are built around a single grinder format with multiple peppers. Our Junior kits include three of our classic Table grinders. Our Classic kits include five. The Pro Kit includes ten.
Matchbook is the only kit built around three different grinder formats: the large-format ("Chef"), the classic "Table," and the travel-size "Mini." Each grinder is engineered for a different moment in your eating experience. It's less about how many peppers you get and more about putting fresh-ground heat in your hand wherever you happen to be.
Which pepper pack should I get for a gift?
- If they like flavor more than fire, choose Kindling.
- If they're already a hot-sauce-on-everything person, Campfire is the safest sweet spot.
- If they actively hunt down superhots and brag about it, get Bonfire.
- If you genuinely don't know how spicy they like it, Fireline covers the whole range. It's the explorer pack.
Can I buy the grinders separately?
Some of them. Our classic Table Grinder is available on its own, empty, in three colors. The large-format Chef grinder is currently sold pre-filled in our Beast XL collection, available in Habanero (#4) and Ghost Pepper (#5).
The Mini, the leather travel case, the spill cap, and the precision funnel are not yet sold separately. Matchbook is currently the only way to get them. If you want all three grinder formats together, this is the kit.
What happens when the spice runs out?
You order more. SpiceQuest sells single-pepper refills across the entire heat scale, so once they figure out which peppers they love, they can keep their favorite grinder loaded forever. The grinders themselves are built to last. Refilling is the point.
What does HPLC/lab-tested actually mean?
HPLC stands for high-performance liquid chromatography. It's the lab method used to precisely measure capsaicin, the molecule responsible for chili heat. Most spice brands estimate heat or use vague "mild/medium/hot" labels. SpiceQuest measures it directly, every batch.

I like the seasonings, but i only tried the number three so far. As for packaging, the items were not secure in the box. When i pulled out the packaging, i could hear it rattling inside. The stands for the grinder are glass, and none of them were secure in the foam. Might need to make the mold a little deeper. Still ordered and another level of heat also.
(Update) i received an email offer for a refund because of packaging. Because of the good customer service i am hoodie to 5 star.
Perfect timing for Father's Day! This new addition to the SpiceQuest lineup is a must-have. Excellent quality as always, featuring top-tier surgical precision materials. Any spice lover would be thrilled to have this!
