PepperPlegic Chocolate Primotalii: what is in it and how hot it tested

Two peppers and one addition: Chocolate Primotalii, Fatalii and natural capsaicin extract. That is what the product page lists for PepperPlegic Chocolate Primotalii. This SpiceQuest chili grinder tested at about 6,000,000 Scoville heat units (SHU), about 6.1 times our pure Carolina Reaper, no. 9 Reaper X, at 975,612.

No chocolate in it

The product page says so directly. Chocolate is the color of the pepper, and the grinder holds no chocolate and no chocolate flavoring. What makes a pepper "chocolate" covers the name.

What is in it, according to the PepperPlegic Chocolate Primotalii page:

  • Chocolate Primotalii, which brings the earthy, smoky side
  • Fatalii, which brings a sharp citrus brightness
  • natural capsaicin extract, added to raise the heat

The page gives no proportions. More on the extract is in What natural capsaicin extract is.

How about 6,000,000 compares

We also sell Chocolate Primotalii as a pure pepper, and the gap between the two grinders is large.

Grinder Tested SHU Natural capsaicin extract
PepperPlegic Chocolate Primotalii about 6,000,000 Yes
No. 10 Carolina Reaper 2,235,842 May contain some
Chocolate Primotalii 1,361,754 No
No. 9 Reaper X 975,612 No

The blend tested at about 4.4 times the pure Chocolate Primotalii. Only one grinder on our Scoville chart tested higher, the League of Fire Competition Grinder at 7,412,912, and it also contains extract. On our tier list PepperPlegic is Nuclear, 3,000,000 and up.

The pure pepper has its own Chocolate Primotalii profile, and the two grinders are set side by side in Chocolate Primotalii vs. PepperPlegic.

Dark first, then citrus

The product page describes deep, earthy notes of cocoa and smoke, then bright citrus and tropical fruit, with flashes of lemon and passion fruit. The finish is a dry heat, like peppercorn.

The heat climbs slowly to full strength and tapers off gradually. It begins on the tongue and lips and moves to the throat and chest. The climb is slow, so wait before you press again.

Buying it

PepperPlegic suits someone who already eats superhots and wants more heat than any pure pepper gives. It is not a first superhot. Chocolate Primotalii is a limited release, and so is this blend. The product pages show whether each is available.

Both are over 1,000,000 SHU. Start with one press, keep them away from children and read our ultra-hot safety page before you open either one.
